Hey there,
This is the first Thursday Newsletter I’m sending and I want to take a moment to thank you for being here. I’m grateful to get this going. I hope you will find at least one thing you can use or reflect on.
Let’s go:
Interesting ideas
Starting creative endeavours from abundance, not from a blank page
I watched this youtube video that summarises a concept called Building a Second Brain. The idea behind it is to gather all your knowledge and stuff that resonates with you in a digital, easy to retrieve format. These can later be useful as a starting point for your creative endeavours. Instead of categorising the information you find chronologically or based on specific topics, you can capture and assign it to projects you are working on. This way, you won’t have to go through the fear of building from scratch. The ideas you’ve collected will become the basis for your project.
Moderate procrastinators are the most creative
Adam Grant’s Ted Talk on The surprising habits of original thinkers reveals the findings of a study conducted on different level procrastinators. Moderate procrastinators are more creative than people who complete their tasks way ahead of the deadline. The explanation is that the act of procrastination gives them more time to consider different ideas and unexpected courses of action before getting into execution.
Media recommendations
Podcast: Naval Ravikant on Happiness, Reducing Anxiety, Crypto Stablecoins, and More | The Tim Ferriss Show
Naval is an entrepreneur and investor, co-founder of AngelList. He seems to have a high level of self-awareness and is very open about his life philosophy and thinking process. What intrigues me is that Naval is both a successful investor operating in the real world and an advocate for meditation and life balance.
Book: The Psychology of Money: Timeless lessons on wealth, greed, and happiness is a collection of short stories that look at how people think about money and teach us how to make better decisions regarding our finances.
Series: And Just Like That… on HBO
The Sex and the City sequel continues the story of Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte navigating a more complicated reality, which I find to be more insightful and still very funny. The topics it tackles are heavier and more nuanced.
App: Down Dog
I highly recommend it if you want to get moving and look for an at-home solution. It offers highly customised workouts where you can pick everything! The type, intensity, length, background music or even the voice of your instructor. It’s been a game-changer for me ever since I discovered it in 2019. My yoga and HIIT practices easily became part of my routine.
May the rest of your week be joyful, productive and balanced!
